The
Orissa Super cyclone has taken a major toll of human lives and destroyed
miles and miles of property. The Government, NGO's and other international
agencies are tackling the problem of rehabilitation of victims on a war
footing.
Oxfam
is spearheading relief and rehabilitation operations and is continually
delpoying manpower and supplies while monitoring the process. In keeping
with its mandate of providing immediate emergency relief in disasters and
in response to Government requests, Oxfam is already coordinating a response
and conducting situational assessments since the first cyclone of October
17, 1999.
However these
interventions are pitifully inadequate for the sheer scale of devastation.
We appeal urgently to all to support us in this crisis to help the plight
of the millions affected by this unprecedented disaster.
Many
resources are required by way of volunteers, supplies and money. Every
bit of your commitment will help in mitigating the suffering and will speed
up the recovery process.
