Help for TheGuideMail

TheGuideMail should not considered as a replacement for your usual email software like Eudora, Netscape Messenger, Outlook Express. TheGuideMail gives you an utility to catch up with your email even when you are not at your own computer e.g. if you are travelling and are using a friend's machine or cyber cafe facility to browse. This utility does not have all the features of your regular email software as it is not meant to be the replacement of it.Where ever you have a web browser available you can get to your email. Important tip: Quit the browser i.e. close it after you have finished with your mail.

For Eudora Users:

Certain versions of Eudora users need to setup their email software before using TheGuideMail.

If you don't prepare the email client properly you might lose your email permanently by using TheGuideMail.

Email clients which need special setup:

If you are using a version of Eudora prior to 4.0, for example, Eudora Pro Version 3.0.2 or earlier, you must setup Eudora before using TheGuideMail.

Use following steps:

Step 1. Go to Tools menu and click on Options
Step 2. Click on Checking Mail
Step 3. There choose `First message not read by this machine'

To best of our knowledge and experience all other email software e.g. Netscape's Messenger and Outlook Express work properly with TheGuideMail without any special configuration.

Tips on Using TheGuideMail

General:

  • POP3: address use the original server address(e.g. bom2.vsnl.net.in and NOT vsnl.com)
  • Password: the password for the account.

Reading Mail:

  • Once you log in to your account you will get display of Inbox with latest mail to be the first one.
  • To read a given mail click on the Subject for the email.
  • If you are on any other screen e.g. composing and sending mail to get back to the Inbox by clicking on the [Check Mail (Inbox)] button.
  • Once you have finished your email you MUST logout and quite the browser. The read and unread mail will be available to you to pick up from your usual computer. Only the deleted messages will not be available.

Composing/Sending a Message:

  • At the Inbox click on the "Send a Message" button.
  • In the To: field use full address of whom the mail is being sent e.g. guide@vsnl.com. You don't have an address book so don't use the nick name.
  • In order to  reply to a message you are reading, click [Reply] button.
  • Instead of replying to a message if you wished to send a new mail to a the email you are reading--click on the Sender email address and  begin composing an email to that person.

Deleting Mail:

  • When you are in the index or inbox there are check boxes on the left hand side of each message.
  • To delete messages just check on the boxes on the left of the messages.
  • Delete all the messages which have been checked  by clicking on   `Delete Checked Messages' button.
  • Deleted messages can not be retrieved again, therefore delete only those messages you never want to see again.

TheGuidemail have other functionality. The above instructions are not meant to be a detailed guide to this mailing system. All the functionality are fairly intuitive if you have used email software before, espcially web-based email.
